Kathryn Hopkinson
Counsellor and Psychotherapist
MBACP
Hi there I’m Kath, Hello!
I am a Counsellor and Psychotherapist in private practice supporting children, young people and Adults with the difficulties arising from living with Neurodevelopmental issues such as Autistic Spectrum Condition (Asperger’s Syndrome) Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD/ADD) Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) and Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (PDDNOS) Tourette’s Syndrome, Hydrocephalus, Encephalitis, Epilepsy, intracranial bleeds, severe attachment issues, brain injury, dyslexia, dyspraxia, Bullying, anxiety and meltdowns as well as mental health issues
I work from my home in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, where I have two therapy rooms, both very different. This enables me to accommodate one to one, parent and child, family, parent waiting in the next room etc. I am very conscious of, and have prepared for, most sensory issues, so the rooms are calming, consistent and enabled for the physical challenged. My ethos is, client/young person led, if a person is calm, engaged and comfortable with the therapist and their surroundings, then the therapeutic relationship is off to a good start in my experience.
Therapy is not just about what is 'not' making you happy, its about what 'does' make you happy too. I adapt my therapeutic style to meet the needs of the client/young person, using ASD-friendly, Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic strategies, knowledge gained from my own lived experience, theoretical input and play therapy for younger children.
The sessions last an hour.
I find humor is an important part of the therapeutic process. I work with all cognitive abilities across the age ranges, assisting people in finding clarity within themselves and in the complex world we live in.
It's good to chat!
